“Leave Syria. Think of us”

With the dramatic collapse of the rial currency, and the regime’s flailing response, today has been an interesting day in Iran on several fronts– most notably a merchants’ strike which closed down most of the famous Tehran Bazaar and others shops in the city.

Via BBC Persian, here’s video of shuttered shops and protesters chanting “Leave Syria, Think of Us!”

Referring to a part of Iranian history that is probably making the country’s rulers shudder, the Associated Press notes:

The sprawling bazaar has played a critical role in charting Iran’s political course — leading a revolt that wrung pro-democratic concession from the ruling monarchy more than a century ago and siding with the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
