Lee John Barnes: The Kim Il-sung of British Nationalism?

Former BNP Legal Director Lee Barnes has recently made a political comeback of sorts. While his moribund post-BNP ‘organisation’ the ‘European National Alliance‘ unsurprisingly went nowhere, Barnes has now found a collection of ex-BNP saddos willing to take him seriously, in the form of the ‘British Freedom Party‘.

Barnes is a man who fancies himself a poet, a philosopher, an esoteric mystic, a political theorist, a daring truth teller, and so on. He is also utterly obsessed with supposed Zionist conspiracies, which he exposes with the help of information taken from anti-Semitic hate sites, Holocaust denial outfits, and other extremist websites including Socialist Worker.

Pride of place on the British Freedom Party website is a three part video of a recent talk given by Barnes to the party faithful, who amazingly managed to stay awake for an almost 30 minute rambling diatribe in which Barnes explained how the Greek financial crisis is part of a ‘financial armageddon’, a ‘planned demolition’ carried out by ‘people who have used finances to control nations and economies and companies for generation after generation after generation… like the Rothschilds, y’know’.

For the most part, Barnes steers clear of his more whacky theories, although there is of course much talk of ‘globalists’ and a brief mention of how Israel and America control Britain. Presumably, Barnes is trying to put on a more ‘normal’ face for his new mates in the BFP who might find it hard to win anyone over should he offer his undiluted views.

Away from his new role as BFP orator, however, Barnes has carried on as before. Some recent highlights from his blog include the following:

May 7th: Barnes writes of ‘Bin Ladens Murder’:

The US could have arrested him and put him on trial, but we all know that would have opened up a whole can of worms as to how the CIA set up, funded, trained and armed Al Qaeda.

Hence he was executed – primarily to ensure the truth about Americas support for Bin Laden died with him.

May 8th: Barnes reproduces a Chomsky article that describes Bin Laden as an ‘unarmed victim’.

May 22nd: Barnes treats his readers to yet another of his turgid poems:

And there in vision from the East,
I saw a fiery red dragon arise,
Crowned with gold and diamonds,
Snarling with a thousand missiles.

Strutting Fjalar, the scarlet rooster,
Crowed once and shook the heavens,
As Eggther strummed upon his harp,
He wept, fretting the bloody strings.

June 6th: Searchlight is a ‘Zionist front group’ (the SWP’s UAF agrees).

June 7th: ‘Israel and the 911 cover up’.

June 8th: ‘911 is exposed as an inside job’.

July 2nd: ‘Gaddafi is hated by the Libyan people the media tell us. Yeah right’.

July 2nd: Barnes cites a Press TV article and claims:

Now we know what the take over of the Greek nation means, its surrender to the power of global capitalism and the Zionists.

The Greek nation is now a nation of debtors and zionist whores abasing themselves before the US and Israel.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about all this is the fact that writers and websites supported by the far-left – Chomsky, Press TV, etc. – and ideas promoted by some leftists – Bin Laden as a ‘victim’, Libya as imperialism, and so on – are becoming increasingly important in the worldview of someone who is supposedly part of the British ‘far-right’.

Given Barnes’s driving belief that the answer to Britain’s future is to adopt a position of hostility to America and Israel, promote ‘anti-imperialism’ and ‘anti-Zionism’, withdraw from global markets, and build a society based on self-sufficiency, perhaps what we are actually seeing in Barnes and the BFP is a British form of the Juche ideology of the DPRK.
