Who Killed Abdul Fatah Younis?

As desirable a consumation as dislodging Gaddafi definitely is, I had grave doubts about Operation Odyssey Dawn from the outset; not least because of the wisdom in basing efforts on air and sea strikes.
Boringly, one constituency of gushing support was based on previous opposition to the invasion of Iraq – because, you know, it was [...]

Outside the “Peace Camp” Opposite Parliament

Here’s one of the protesters at the ongoing “peace camp” opposite the Houses of Parliament, today.

Now that Brian Haw is dead, surely the time has come for these loons and racists to be given their marching orders?

Crackdown in Hama

It may not be on the same scale as the 1982 massacre (yet), but reports are coming out of a military assault on Hama and other Syrian towns which have been centers of anti-regime protests in recent months.
At least 100 are reported to have been killed on Sunday in Hama alone.
At least this time around [...]

Social and economic justice takes center stage in Israel

Here’s a photo from Saturday night’s demonstration in Tel Aviv– part of a wave of protests in Israel that began with tent cities to call attention to the lack of affordable housing and morphed into a more general demand for social and economic justice.

And yes, that’s a banner of Che Guevara side by side with [...]

Which side (or quadrant) are you on?

This isn’t the first time Harry’s Place readers have been asked to take a test to gauge their political views – but it’s been a while, and you may not have been reading HP then, or your views may have changed.  So – I was:

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.28
(I do think the questions somehow seem [...]

Every Friday and often after school on other days, Israeli soldiers fire tear-gas and sonic bombs at the Palestinian children as they approach a spring

The Economist says:
EVERY Friday and often after school on other days, Israeli soldiers fire tear-gas and sonic bombs at the Palestinian children as they approach a spring. It sits in a valley that separates Nabi Saleh, an Arab village of 500 people half an hour’s drive north of Jerusalem, from Halamish, a religious Jewish settlement. [...]

The Jihadist as Civil Rights Hero

This is a cross-post by Sohrab Ahmari, from the Weekly Standard.

In late March, as Boston emerged from winter, so did the city’s protest community. On the 24th of the month I watched as antiwar students joined forces with partisans of the Palestinian cause and Nation of Islam members in their immaculately pressed suits and distinctive [...]

Outside Ahava

In a sense the battle’s already been lost (or won, from a BDS point of view) as Ahava is moving out of its Monmouth Street store in a month or so.  But a small group of pro-boycott activists were picketing the store today – with a rather smaller group of counter-demonstrators on the other side.
It [...]

Egypt at a crossroads

Abu Faris in Cairo writes:
Today there was another huge demonstration in Tahrir Square against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) – the junta who presently rule Egypt – protesting their continued delay in establishing when free and fair democratic elections will take place (now SCAF are saying they will be run in November) [...]
