not in our name – and not in the name of Torah
This is a cross post by bananabrain of The Spittoon
usually, when responses to the latest act of settler militancy are announced, they tend to fall into four different categories:
1. standard “deplore and condemn” statements from the peace camp, from leftie organisations like peace now, b’tzelem, adalah, rabbis for human rights and so on.
2. standard “you [...]

Double standards on extremists
This is a cross-post from Just Journalism’s blog The Wire.
Umm al-Fahm riots trigger lopsided characterisation of extremist movements in Israel.
The respective depictions of Israel’s Jewish and Arab extremist movements in today’s reporting of yesterday’s riots in Umm al-Fahm reveals a striking double standard. While Jewish protesters were ‘far-right,’ ‘racist’ and ‘ultranationalists’ the northern branch of [...]

Immigrant Russia – a crisis of demography or ethnicity?
This is a guest post by Ben Judah

Terry Gallogly’s Dishonesty Further Damages Anti-Israel Methodist Cause
This is a cross-post from Joseph Weissman
Some Methodists are trying to justify their hostile stance towards Israel by saying that their boycott is only of settlement goods, and not of Israel proper.
However, the boycotters have severely undermined their case in many ways.
1) They are mixing in their boycott with theology. Rev Nichola Jones shamefully invoked [...]

Nestor Kirchner
Reuters reports:
Argentine shares and bonds rose on Wednesday after the death of political heavyweight and former President Nestor Kirchner removed from the 2011 election campaign a contender seen as unfriendly to markets.
A market holiday in Argentina muted local prices, but investors immediately bid higher Argentine credit-related and equity-related assets trading in global markets following the [...]

Lauren Booth: Jew?
An amusing piece in the Indie:
Can you really claim to have converted to Islam when you’ve read only the first 60 pages of the Koran? What if you don’t like the ending? That’s the question on the minds of anyone hearing that Tony Blair’s sister-in-law Lauren Booth switched religions six weeks ago (10 pages per [...]

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, Wikileaks and the war in Iraq
I am pleased to note that Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi, an occasional guest poster at Harry’s Place, has a letter published in today’s Independent. Aymenn’s letter is in response Yasmin Alibhai-Brown’s article in the same newspaper on Monday. She alleged that George Bush and Tony Blair “are worse” than Saddam Hussein. Aymenn’s letter is copied below:
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown [...]
