UCLU Islamic Society: Promoting Muslim integration?

The University College London Union (UCLU) Islamic Society website is currently carrying an advert for its 2010 National Ramadan Conference. Entitled ‘The Dunya Deception’, the event will apparently give ‘every Muslim in the UK a special chance to realise the Satanic traps around them’.

Jalal Ibn Sa’eed, a popular Salafi preacher, is going to be appearing. Here he is warning Muslims not to be like the Jews:

Most of us are guilty … We selfishly live like the Jews who only care about themselves and call the rest the goyim, those who are damned, those who are enslaved to them.

Sa’eed isn’t a fan of music, according to this report on the 2006 Global Peace & Unity Event:

One brother did speak out and did it in the nicest way: Br Jalal ibn Sa’eed. After the banjo strumming was over, he came and with a smile on his face said that the guitars were not his cup of tea and then clearly said for all to hear that Music is haraam. The crowd cheered. He called on them to do takbeer and there was loud cheering because so many people there agreed with him.

To be fair, Sa’eed isn’t alone in considering music haraam. Take these guys for example.

With moderate views like these, it’s no surprise Jalal Ibn Sa’eed is in great demand. He’s also speaking at the London Muslim Centre (East London Mosque) this Saturday at an Islamic Education And Research Academy event entitled ‘The Prophet & His Message‘. The IERA, you will remember, is the Islamist organisation that is currently playing up ‘Islamophobia’ with assistance from The Guardian. IERA’s leaders include the Hizb ut-Tahrir linked Greek convert Hamza Tzortzis, who will also be speaking at the event. Tzortzis is a man who has stated that ‘we as Muslims reject the idea of freedom of speech, and even of freedom’.

Zahir Mahmood is billed as another speaker at The Dunya Deception. Mahmood is a George Galloway sidekick who can be seen here praising his ‘hero’ and declaring support for Hamas:

By Allah, history will remember George as a hero. And the other thing is that we cannot allow the perverted narrative to remain the norm. Hamas are not terrorists. They’re freedom fighters, they’re defending their country.

Mahmood also claims that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh ‘has given all those who went on the convoy Palestinian passports. We are Palestinian nationals!’

As habibi reported here, Mahmood is none too impressed with the idea of freedom of expression:

How often do you see the disciples of Salman Rushdie coming out and they say “Oh, we don’t really care. It’s an issue freedom of speech. It’s only a cartoon”. I ask you, is there any such thing as absolute freedom? Is there any such thing? They say a man is free. But if you violate the rights of other people, if you commit a crime, they will put you into prison, so where’s your freedom? Because freedom comes with responsibility. And if you forego that responsibility, then you don’t have the right to have freedom.

Those who depict Muhammad may be behaving like ‘criminals’, but Mahmood is even less impressed with non-Islamist Muslims in Europe, who, he says, should be willing to die to protect Muhammad’s ‘honour’:

This is an ummah whose back has been broken. And the only thing which will fix this back is that we make, join our relationship back with Allah and his prophet. May Allah make us from amongst those who would die for the honour of the prophet. May Allah make us amongst those.

The reality is that if the prophet was here he would be upset by these caricatures, no doubt. But don’t you think the prophet would also be upset when he sees the believers who have been relinquishing his guidance? Do you think if the prophet was here he would be more upset with the Europeans or the Muslims? Who do you think? It would be the Muslims who have relinquished the guidance of Islam, who have relinquished his teachings. So may Allah make us amongst those who live and die for the sunnah [the ways] of the prophet.

Uthman Lateef will also be speaking at the event. Lateef is a man who will be known to regular readers of Harry’s Place. Here he is telling his audience that we currently live in a ‘period of tyrants, of tyrannical, oppressive rulers … and that’s what we’re seeing today in all the lands where Muslims are, people don’t rule with the Book and the sunnah‘. Fear not, says Lateef, for ‘we as an ummah will once again rule by the Book and the sunnah‘:

Lateef is somewhat fixated on ideas such as this and has given a number of lectures with ‘end times’ themes, where he has enlightened listeners with information such as:

The dajjal [the devil] will come from the Jews of Isfahan [in Iran] and he will have with him 70,000 Jews.

And:

[Y]ou will conquer Rome and Allah will grant that to you … The Muslims will take for their army a people. Not the Joe Bloggs of humanity. A people who will have a resolve and they will fight for death, they will fight to die, for martyrdom in Allah’s cause, for victory, not to come back as losers.

And:

The Muslims will be holding the spoils of war in their hands.

‘The Dunya Deception’ will be bringing together an anti-Semite, a Hamas supporter, and an Islamic supremacist. In organising such an event, UCLU Islamic Society is actively promoting ideologues who reject the idea of Muslim integration and do nothing to assist community relations and social cohesion in the UK.
