Strange bedfellows
In an interesting post about the EDL and their background, Hope Not Hate makes the following point about some of the surprising people aligning themselves with the EDL.
The announcement that the EDL has formed both LGBT and Jewish divisions has caused discomfort not only among the hard core of heavy drinking “laddish” homophobes among its [...]

Maajid Nawaz on “60 Minutes”
I missed it when it was first broadcast last April, but the CBS News program “60 Minutes” featured a report on former Hizb ut-Tahrir activist and Quilliam Foundation co-founder Maajid Nawaz, and his efforts to combat Islamic extremism and and anti-American sentiment in the UK and Pakistan.

Let’s Go Outside
This is a cross-post by Joseph W
The Independent’s Christina Patterson wrote last week:
When I moved to Stamford Hill, 12 years ago, I didn’t realise that goyim were about as welcome in the Hasidic Jewish shops as Martin Luther King at a Klu Klux Klan convention. I didn’t realise that a purchase by a goy was [...]

The Time cover
Terry Glavin has some thoughts on the startling cover photo of the latest Time magazine.
The accompanying article– “What Happens if We Leave Afghanistan”– is not online, but Terry writes that subject of the photo, Aisha, “is an 18-year-old Afghan woman whose nose and ears were cut off by a Taliban butcher for the ‘crime’ of [...]

Livingstone’s Iraq gambit
At a recent London Labour Mayoral hustings, Ken brought up the Iraq war:
Ken, mincing none of his words, noted that: “that invasion [into Iraq] took the lives of 52 Londoners” – referring to the 7/7 bombings.
It needs to be emphasized, again and again it appears, that Mohammad Siddique Khan was radicalised before Iraq, and before [...]

“White Liberals” – perhaps – general f**king idiots more like
This is a Guest Post by More Media Nonsense
Talk about timing.
As if by magic I’ve spotted a prime example of the kind of “Left” madness currently a big topic on HP.
On that well known home of “Idiot Left” buffoons “Stalinist Lunacy” we have this:
The story is Salma Yaqoob condemns the Iranians over stonings (hurrah !). [...]

Why leftists should support Israel
Not much new here for regular readers of Harry’s Place, but Alan Krinsky– who describes his politics as “Liberal-Left,” who supports single-payer universal health care, who “opposed the war in Iraq and the Bush-Cheney ‘imperial presidency’,” and who (shudder) voted twice for Ralph Nader– gives eight reasons why leftists should be pro-Israel.

Sunny Hundal is right
Neil D is right. The EDL ‘protest’ in Bradford almost certainly will result in unrest. That said, Sunny Hundal is also right when he says:
We need cast-iron laws to protect these pillars of democracy: the right to demonstrate and protest without being shut down without very good cause; and an obligation on the [...]

I predict a riot
Hope not Hate take a sensible position on the EDL, who are deliberately trying to provoke unrest:
Later this month English Defence League supporters hope to parade their hatred through the streets of Bradford and the HOPE not hate campaign is pulling out all the stops to prevent them. One thing we will not be doing [...]

White Liberals and Politically Correct Racism
This is a cross-post by Edmund Standing
The white liberal is an unhealthy type of creature that you will undoubtedly have encountered, if not in real life, certainly via the media. By ‘liberal’, I do not mean simply someone who has a generally liberal outlook, in the sense of a ‘live and let [...]
