Netanyahu has given in to American demands. The American media is trying to pretend that nothing big has happened and that Obama is reasonable and Bibi is getting his just desserts.

But Obama has done an about face and is starting to screw us over big time. What's next after Jerusalem? Tearing down the security barrier? Probably. What about after that?

What do you think now Gene? Obama is "reaching out" to the Iranian people but "condemning" Israelis for building in Jerusalem - something that not even the Palestinians were demanding during the Oslo era.

When he told AIPAC he supported an undivided Jerusalem, he wasn't just pandering - he was deliberately concealing who he really is.

" those who indignantly deny that antisemitism is a problem are usually the same people doing their utmost to promote it, "

What a load of hooey. Unprovable wafer thin slurs. "AntiSemitism" is a huge problem ..but another one is that it is shrieked every time a settlement starts being built. It is the sand in the cement.

Actually, AIPAC started as a two-bit operation connected to Republicans.

AIPAC was certainly a two bit operation when it began but I am suspicious of the claim that it began with connections to the Republican Party.

Certainly Isaiah Leo Kenen, who was Executive Director and a registered lobbyist for the American Zionist Committee for Public Affairs (AZCPA), which became the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in 1959, is an odd person to assert to have been connected with the Republican Party when AIPAC began, as Kenen had drafted statements and speeches on Israel and US policy in the Middle East for Hubert Humphrey, Harry S. Truman, and John F. Kennedy, all Democrats.

See the American Jewish Historical Society Center for Jewish History brief on Kenen here

Yes but they've managed to turn AIPAC into a dirty word, accusing AIPAC of the usual canards about Jews, including conspiracies, dual loyalty and Disproportionate Power, such as running the media (like CNN maybe).

In fact it's kind of like "Zionism". The word no longer represents what it actually means or signifies in The Reality Based Community, which is dwindling by the hour.

Interesting site.

Windter says:

"can you please give a quotation for this ‘psychedelic assertion’?"

See the opening of the Walt paper. As an American, it is psychedelic, I can promise you. George Will?

But to give you context, you need to know what Walt is arguing against. Standard anti-Zionist discourse in the US puts everything at the feet of "AIPAC." Actually, AIPAC started as a two-bit operation connected to Republicans. It was the American left who needed a "rightist" bogeyman, and elevated AIPAC to iconic levels. Ironically, left wing conspiracy mongering made AIPAC what it is today.

Walt, not limited to leftist partyline thinking, noticed there were a lot of organizations and people that are part of the "lobby", not just AIPAC.

David All, you neglected to mention the Islamic Republic of Iran in your "true axis of international terrorism". And despite whatever Alcuin and AOS's affinities for conservative opposition to universal health insurance coverage or incidents of unreliable FOX news coverage of it, at least Alcuin and AOS demonstrate that they showed enough good sense not to introduce this very OT debate about US Health coverage into this thread.

Lbnaz, thanks for pointing out the long-standing corporative ties between CNN and the Saudis. Important to remember the Saudis support of terrorism around the world including the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi. The true axis of international terrorism is Saudi Arabia(Al Qaida), Pakistan, especially the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence service and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

As for AOS and Alcuin's heroes, talk radio and Fox (Faux) News, they are a lot more inaccurate and a lot worse in smearing than their PC counterparts. Here are two samples of their vicious style concerning the health care debate.
Talk radio attacks an 11 year old boy whose mother died due to lack of health insurance at http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2010/03/18/90669/state-of-the-health-care-debate.html
Fox (Faux) News lies about a study supposedly done by the New England Journal of Medicine at http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/3/18/847246/-Fox-caught,-again
Finally while this is not on health care, it is too good to pass up.
Stephen Colbert on the Comedy Channel saying that in order to avoid offending minorities Glenn Beck broadcasts at a frequency only white folks can hear. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/3/18/84751/-Late-afternoon-early-evening-open-thread

Hat tips to Daily Kos for linking to all of the above stories.

Have to agree Lbnaz. That needed said. Since when, to cite one example, has the long established Foreign Office Camel Corps had much to do with the fucking Labour Party?

The proof of this pudding will be how Cameron deals with various groupings of Islamist scum and other murderous anti-Semites who now operate openly again in Britain's social and political landscape. Is there a chance that things will be *exactly* the same under the Tory tool? Of course they fucking will and that's why it's so utterly depressing.

AOS and Alcuin are notably absent, or to be kinder, disproportionately understated, when it comes to discussing why prominent conservatives and libertarian leaders and activists speak from the same message box using the exact same Arabist and antizionist talking points revitalized into contemporary discourse by conservative realists Walt & Mearsheimer as those they crudely oppose and denounce as either "the Democratic Party leadership", or "the Left".

On this thread, AOS appears to be identifying the Saudi funded CNN as "the Left" and assuming that Jim Clancy couldn't possibly be a conservative or right leaning libertarian and still present his segment, replete with interruptions and Walt & Mearsheimer cheerleading as Ben reported he did.

Meanwhile, Alcuin isn't clear if there's any meaningful difference between Liberals, socialism and the left, but it apparently will only be the latter two that will be wondering what went wrong with the economy in a couple of years presumably because the Liberal mindset will have already been clobbered.

But to the main point: AOS and Alcuin disproportionately understate conservative and right-leaning libertarian Arabism and antizionism, while intentionally erasing all distinctions between Liberals, socialism and the Left in all their respective stripes so often, that it's long since begun to seem not only a reading far too selective to account for the political values of individuals whether they see themselves as Liberals, Socialists, Conservatives or Libertarians, but tedious as well.
