What it does state is that the attack took place in the tribally administered North-West Frontier, which suggests to me that someone neglected to pay their baksheesh to whichever tribal group had its paws outstretched.”

1 Exile, I guessed you missed the facts that (a) the murders happened in an area noirth of Islamabad and near the Swat valley, with strong Taliban bases and where the Taliban is currently and murderously active, (b) the attacks mirror the method of the Taliban’s previous mass-murder of charity workers, that time for the children’s charity Plan International, also north of Islamabad in February 2008, and (c) that Tim Costello of World Vision Australia has advised that the World Vision centre had been getting threats from the Taliban, so that (d) it’s hardly surprising that mainstream media, not just Harry’s Place, are calling it a Taliban attack.

It does look you have a desperate and rather pathetic desire to defend the Taliban. Still, that’s only what it looks like, but I don’t think that’s really the case. You’re just very stupid, wanting to pointscore over murder (why would you even want to?) and getting it wrong. Also projecting heavily, on the pud-puller front.

2 Mr Eugenides. Yeah, sorry. Yours was a pretty good imitation of, ah, some commentators here, and I took it for the real thing. Poe’s law.

It was a fair parody, in no way more obviously stupid or malevolent than the real thing. But I was rubbed a bit raw by the aid worker murders. I’ve got reservations about World Vision’s approach, but those were good and brave people slaughtered.

Unlike most reports covered by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the ABC describes the murderers as terrorists and not “militants”, but yes it does leave the reader to draw the conclusion that as the motivation for the attack appears to be the training and educating of women, that it was more likely the Taliban or other Islamists and not maurading members of the Union of Catholic Mothers or the B’nai Brith.

Oops, the clumsy sarcasm of my comment from yesterday was clearly not heavy-handed enough. I was attempting, as someone points out about, to be sardonic. Clearly not very well.

I’m slightly bemused – just to change the subject entirely – why The Exile is so keen to absolve the Taliban of all responsibility for this. I mean, are you saying it’s not their M.O.? Or that they abhor the spilling of human blood? That they just wouldn’t stoop this low?

Even if it wasn’t the Taliban that done this, it’s still dreadful. If it was just lads out on a jolly or tribal elders high on opium, then it’s still bad. 0r so think I.

It’s everywhere. Christians hacked to death in Nigeria. Aid workers killed in Pakistan. Buddhists and Hindus in Bangladesh are being ‘cleansed’, as are Christians in Iraq. Copts are murdered in Egypt.

You’d think the world would say something.
