I’m sure this doesn’t exist in the Israeli curriculum. As I understand it, Israel bends over backwards to make its curriculum politically correct.

It seems that sometimes Islamic extremists follow the rule of offense-being-the-best-defense when it comes to propaganda. When aware that Hamas/Hezbollah/the PA is accused of doing something, fling the exact accusation back at Israel, word-for-word, and see if it will stick. At the very least, it serves to muddy the waters.

Guantanamo is a place of humiliation for Muslims. In there, all the detainees are Muslims but Americans claim the prison is for terrorists. Why don’t they arrest non-Muslims belonging to these so-called terror groups? US-led Crusaders don’t have the nerve to keep track of the activities of Jewish terrorists. In Guantanamo bay, the torture tactics are different; Americans use a kind of psychological torture that kills you mentally. Interrogators force Muslims to confess crimes they didn’t commit by torturing them and sullying their religion.

I drafted this letter for Graeme Thomas, and at the time would not have known the difference between an Islamic Forum of Europe and a European Council of Fatwa Research. In fact the list was supplied by Mockbul Ali, the FCO’s Islamic Issues Adviser, and in the light of the revelations made in last night’s Ch 4 Dispatches programme about the IFE’s approach to the arts and festivals generally, it does appear somewhat disingenuous for Ali to have included them in this list.

It is a significant tragedy that the Festival of Muslim Cultures was sabotaged through the combined efforts of the Government, the FCO and the Muslim Council of Britain – a potent symbol of craven politicians and officials out of their depth in their dealings with the Muslim world.

In October 2006, Steven Emerson wrote for the Counterterrorism Blog about his own experience seeing Helbawy supporting Hamas, supporting an Intifada against Israel, and verbally attacking Christians and Jews. Steven Emerson also pointed to Helbawy speaking at a conference that included “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdul-Rahman, who is in prison for the 1993 World Trade Center attack.

Helbawy appeared at a conference of the Muslim Arab Youth Association in December 1992 in the USA. Here are some of his recorded comments:

In 1991, Helbawy spoke at a conference hosted by the Islamic Committee for Palestine, a front group that was headed by convicted Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operative Sami al-Arian. Other speakers at the event include Specially Designated Terrorist and current General Secretary of PIJ, Ramadan Abdullah Shallah, the notorious Egyptian “Blind Sheikh,” Omar Abdul Rahman (spiritual leader of the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, currently serving a life prison sentence for his role in a plot to blow up New York City landmarks), and PIJ founder and spiritual leader Abdel Aziz Al Awda.
