I’ve done a lot of campaiogning with her over the last four years, she’s amazing, talented and hard working. She’ll be a great MP for BGB. She was born in Bangladesh, moved here with here family and grew up in Bethnal Green. She went to a local comprehensive. So far a pretty common story for a British Bengali. She then went to Oxford to study PPE, and after a brief spell working for Oona King, she’s worked at the Foreign Office, the Home Office (working on the aftermath of the 2001 riots in the North West) and a variety of progressive think tanks. Yes, the chattering classes love her, but so do white working class pensioners, Somalis, Bengalis and everyone else that makes up the community as a whole. Abjol Miah and Zak Khan may fight for the 5-7,000 votes that IFE may control, but Rushanara will get a damn site more, because she reaches out to the whole community rather than one narrow section of it.

Well, going on the performance put in here by Tory Andrew Boff, neither do the Conservatives in the GLA either.

Whilst I commend your long term campaign to empower the local communities over the centre in London, surely this does not mean empowering communalist hate-mongers, clerical fascists and assorted religious nutcases (such as IFE), who actually neither represent their local communities, nor give give a stuff for democracy local or national?

Instead we get banalities such as:

Jack Straw: “the vital and valued role Muslims and the Islamic faith play in our society.” Has he ever made a similar comment about any other faith? I make be wrong, but I guess he would rather spit tacks than do so.

John Denham: “Your rich history is going to be crucial in years to come.” Yes, but Labour are destroying any chance that Islam will be allowed to breathe at all in the UK outside the narrow confines of Wahabbist/Bannaist/Mawdoodist/Qutbist – read Ibn Tamiyyah – politics.

The Banality of Evil – Straw, Denham, and the MCB in the pursuit of power – but for what ends?

The 7/7 killers had a different outlook, as have the 260+ Muslims accused of terrorism related offences in the UK. However, do those who hate Jews and advocate killing them have a different outlook to you and the majority of people. Do those who want to kill gays have a different outlook?

Integration is when you become a part of the wider community in which you live. It means you have good relationships with members of other communities and participate fully in society. It means that you identify with your ‘host’ country while also being proud of your own identity and origins.

What has happened here is the opposite of integration. This is about a small group of people from one community attempting to influence the democratic process to the detriment of others in the community who do not hold the same views as they do. This is about undermining democracy which is the default situation in this country.

Harry’s Place occasionally attracts some rather ’special’ individuals but I doubt we have ever had the misfortune to be visited by anyone who would be unable to see the clear differences here.
