I think the thread is dancing around the problem.

The UK has the same problem as the USA - lack of a party which will both support Israel and also progressive social and economic programmes.

Few on the centre-left want to admit the left is becoming a focal point for anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic bigotry.

Few on the centre-right want to admit that the philosophy of "running government for business" just hasn't worked.

And therein lies the rub.

The large working class consitiuencies are not where the Muslim vote is most crucial as the Tories probably can't win in these seats anyway. Its in the London and Midland marginals - the seats the Tories must win to form a Government that the Muslim vote will be most heavilly courted - by all parties

Incidentally, a further thought for those who are thinking like you. While Labour and Israel sympathisers like me must obviously bear thee burden of the Jeremy Corbyns and Bob Marshall Andrews's, I find it diffiicult to think of anyone on the Tory benches who has fought as strongly as (non Jewish) Labour MPs John Mann and Denis McShane against anti semitism.

Israeli Nurse.

In the nicest possible way, you are bleating, and it is unbecoming. Any special interest group could come up with the sort of imagined grievances you're pasting as if they were the worst of crimes against humanity.

What is your beef with labelling where products come from? This is an absolutely basic consumer right to know issue.

By being a paranoid extremist you are alienating people who would otherwise very much be on your side. I suggest you desist.

I’m hoping that with working class constituencies and large Muslim majorities, people like Straw are falling over themselves to ingratiate themselves with their cohesive minorities

Which is why the Americans are fools not to limit MUslim immigration per se, lest they end like the UK, Holland, and France.

IN
Absolutely right re Labour. However, will the Conservatives be any better and the answer I fear is maybe not.

The best you can say about Labour or the Conservative is at least they're not the Lib Dems with Clueless Clegg leading and Tonge representing them in the Lords.

Mark2 agree 50% with you - no-one could mess up UK finances worse than Brown and I hope that the Tories will have more empathy with Israel than Labour.

I'm hoping that with working class constituencies and large Muslim majorities, people like Straw are falling over themselves to ingratiate themselves with their cohesive minorities and so Israel has to come second. I may be wrong but suspect Tory MPs won't be affected in quite the same way.

I hear all you say - and agree with much of it.

I repeat my quaestion though. Are we likely to get a better deal form the Consrvatives? (I'm assuming by the way that no one with an iota of sympathy for Israel could possibly vote Lib Dem!)

I'm not aware of Tory opposition to any of the examples you give - if say, they critisised Bradshaw I didn't hear it. And those of us living here have a decison to make - as we live here it will no be based solely on Israel though actually I would be happy to forgo any other advantages I might expect form a Labour Governemtn (I work in te public sector and believe a Tory Govt. would be worse for me personally) if I thought a Tory Govt would be much better for Israel. Sadly I see no such examples of that, and despite asking for such here no one has offered me any evidence to the contrary.

Tony S - oh I do judge it by its record: boycott on sales of arms to Israel, Ben Bradshaw's blatantly anti-Semitic conspiracy theory remark last year, Defra labelling of products from the WB & Golan, failure to publicly condem anti-Semitic attacks against Jewish targets last January, failure to prevent the open funding of terrorists by Galloway and others, failure to address the issue of British ex-pats in Israel who cannot draw the British pension they have paid for if they happen not to live in an area of which the British government 'approves', failure to deal with the issue of universal jurisdiction, and much more!

Ben, Tony S, Simon: the question begging to be asked in view of your collective comments is obviously the following. If the Labour Party is so decent, why does it not exclude from its ranks people like Corbyn?
Because it can't IN , but then thankfully Corbyn and pals can't get rid of the likes of me either. We just have to fight it out, a PITA I know but better democracy than democratic centralism. Anyway we seem to have been winning for the last fifteen years hence the far left hissies. Don't judge us by our nutters please, judge the Labour Govenment by its record.
