Well, that’s about it, isn’t it; you’re absolutely right. All it is is retaliations on both sides.

This is no different from army cooks being killed during a war, when they are equally non-combatants but are part of the military.

I’m not sure that the motivations for these repulsive acts are comparable and I’m not sure why you think the attacks from the Arab side were “retaliatory” while those from the Jewish side were the initiating attacks, but other than that, I concur with the rest of the quoted section of your comment above.

The main problem with Shawn and his CiF ilk is that they are incapable of acknowledging the much more numerous incidents of terrorist bombings, massacres and murders of Jewish and Arab civilians in the Yishuv by Arab Muslim gangs (the Black Hand, Iz al Deen Qassam’s thugs & others) and by Arab Muslim crowds whipped up into a religious frenzy by Arab Muslim leaders like Amin Al-Husseini and Araf al Araf that began in the early 1920’s and following a brief recess, resumed in 1929 and then continued unabated until 1939 when Al-Husseini was finally forced into exile, only to resume again in the late 1940’s immediately preceding the war launched by Arab states after Israel declared its independence.

This inability to acknowledge organized Arab terrorism against the Jewish Yishuv while claiming that the Irgun bombing of the King David Hotel proves that Israel was “founded on terror”, is all of a piece with the same ilk’s touted claim that Jews in the newly declared State of Israel methodically ethnically cleansed 750,000 Arabs from Palestine during the 1948 war, while pushing deep into abeyance any acknowledgement of the Arab Liberation Army’s ethnic cleansing of Arab villages which rejected the demand that their villages be used for military attacks against Jewish communities during that same war, is analogous to a play by play commentary of a sports event that never mentions one of the teams on the playing field while hurling non-stop disdain at the other team.

The only two reasons that I can come up with to explain what motivates people like Shawn and his ilk to make such ridiculously selective claims and that allows others to let those kinds of comments pass without rebuttal, as if they are reasonable remarks are: 1) a very limited amount of historical curiosity and knowledge coupled to an essentialist, reductionist and black and white anti-imperialism of lunacy and 2) tactical propaganda to enlist susceptible people like those in #1 to ally with them in their ideological and irredentist war of ressintement.

In the case of an Ilan Pappe, I think reason number 2 is more fitting; in the case of Shawn and his CiF ilk, I’d go with reason number 1.
