A coalition of progressive politicians and public figures is required to ensure that the centre-right Conservative Party does not win the next election. No argument there.
And here’s a conference which intends to do the trick!
A progressive agenda to stop the right in 2010
30 January 2010,
Congress House, Great Russell Street, WC1H
Progressive Agenda to Stop the Right in 2010 is a conference that will bring together leading figures in London and beyond to discuss the most important issues for progressive politics in 2010, nationally, internationally and in London. The ideas, alliances and policies we need to move forward, and how we stop the right from winning. Join the debate.
Progressive London was initiated by Ken Livingstone in 2008 as a cross-party, multi-community forum involving politicians, artists, trade unionists, bloggers, community activists and campaigners to promote social progress in the capital.
Who are these progressives then?
Frances O’Grady – Deputy General Secretary, TUC;
Good. Trade unionists. The backbone of the left
Mike Tuffrey – Leader, London Assembly Liberal Democrats;
Jenny Jones AM – Green Party
Um. Members of left-ish parties other than Labour. Fair enough. They’re basically progressive. Nice to have a broad church.
Sadiq Khan MP, Minister of State for Transport;
Mehdi Hasan – Senior Editor (Politics)
Um, Um, Um…
We know that keeping the moral high-ground is key. Once we lose the moral high-ground we are no different from the rest, of the non-Muslims; from the rest of those human beings who live their lives as animals, bending any rule to fulfil any desire.
Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa saying the stockpiling, the production, the use of nuclear weapons us forbidden under Islam. Spot on. Islamic Republic of Iran. The fatwa of the Supreme Leader.
“The Kaffar, the disbelievers, the atheists who remain deaf and stubborn to the teachings of Islam, the rational message of the Quran; they are described in the Quran as, quote, “a people of no intelligence”, Allah describes them as; not of no morality, not as people of no belief – people of “no intelligence” – because they’re incapable of the intellectual effort it requires to shake off those blind prejudices, to shake off those easy assumptions about this world, about the existence of God. In this respect, the Quran describes the atheists as “cattle”, as cattle of those who grow the crops and do not stop and wonder about this world.”
Who else is “Progressive”
Richard Gott – writer
Surely that should be “Agent of Influence” for the USSR, or more simply “traitor”?
Kate Hudson – Chair, CND
… and member of the hardline Stalinist and pro-North Korean Communist Party of Britain. The woman who invited the Iranian Ambassador to CND Conference to defend his country’s nuclear programme.
Yeah. Very “progressive”.
Professor Tariq Ramadan
The man who is so progressive that he is actually able to call for a “moratorium” (not a ban, of course) on the stoning of women for adultery. If only people in the Conservative Party were this “progressive”.
Dr Abdul Bari – MCB
… and the Jamaat-e-Islami front, Islamic Forum Europe. Not to mention the institution which hosted the “progressive” Anwar Al Awlaki.
Lutfur Rahman – Leader LB Tower Hamlets
Samuel Moncada – Venezuelan Ambassador
You got to be joking
Sunny Hundal – Liberal Conspiracy
I’m sure Sunny will speak out against this madness. Sunny?
George Galloway MP
Hamas Fundraiser In Chief! The man who is actually in the pay of the Islamic Republic of Iran. A notorious progressive.
Andy Newman – Socialist Unity
… RESPECT activist who believes that Iran is a democracy.
Anas Altikriti – British Muslim Initiative
A member of the “progressive” theocratic fascist party, the Muslim Brotherhood.
Let’s take a step back.
What this list shows is Livingstonism. Labour Party people will tell you that Livingstone’s Socialist Action placemen have basically taken over the London Labour Party. They’ve also made pretty serious inroads into Labour Party HQ as well.
What will Livingstonism get you?
It will provide us with the same old coalition of USSR nostalgists, Muslim Brotherhood and Jamaat-e-Islami activists, and employees of the Islamic Republic of Iran that has so discredited the term “progressive”.
So, with this team, you have a foresight of what the future for Labour will be, in opposition.
The presence on this platform of Sadiq Khan MP shows how the mainstream of the Labour Party will smile, and nod, and insist that everything is fine, as the ship gradually sinks.
