UN asked entry into Iran and waiting for reply

ran: New report says human rights as bad as at any time in last 20 years
Posted: 10 December 2009

Human rights violations in Iran are now as bad as at any time in the past 20 years, Amnesty International said today (10 December) in a new report six months on from June's presidential election.

Amnesty's report describes patterns of abuse before, during and, particularly, after the June election, when the authorities deployed the Basij militia and Revolutionary Guards to suppress mass protests at the disputed outcome. It includes testimonies from individuals who were detained during the protests, some of whom have since been forced to flee the country.

Thank you David. From your mouth to God's ears.

TEHERAN - IRAN banned on Tuesday a reformist newspaper owned by supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's brother

for publishing 'provocative' material, local news agencies reported.

The press watchdog banned Hayat-e No (New Life) for 'numerous violations,' Fars and ISNA reported.

The watchdog said the newspaper was initially licensed as a social publication but 'it allocated a considerable space to political issues especially divisive and provocative issues.'

The newspaper, which supports Iran's reformist opposition, is run by Hadi Khamenei, who is an outspoken critic of Iran's hardliners and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"I think it is clear that the regime DOES have a popular base and that base is linked to Islam".

The regime has at the most 15% popular base which are subsidized by the government as mercenaries (i.e. the Basij and their clans). Of that 15% only 5% are true believers zombies.

One thing you people don't understand about Iranian's muslimenss is the fact that the most religious/strictest Iranian muslim cannot compare to the organic muslims of the Arab pennisula. Most Iranians don't even understand Arabic and our prayers are parrotted in Arabic mostly by rote memorization without really comprehending the material. Of course, massive efforts have been launched since the khomeini's revolution to Arabize Iranians in order to make them more "muslim" but all efforts have led to turing more people off from the religion altogether. In fact, the effort has backfired and has made people to convert back to Zoroastrianism or other religion in secret.

Islam was imposed on Iranian and is not organic to our Iranian culture. I guess that's what I'm trying to say...

I get the feeling that it's easier to bomb Iranians if you categorizie them all as Islamsit extremist, eh?

Alcuin: That's what the Western analysist said about the Shah too.

This is a 150 year fight for democracy and this time we are going to get it right. You need to educate yourself instead of viewing us as "Islamsit" zealots. From your comments I sense you have no interest in learning about Iranians apart from you know about the so called muslimness. Also, there is no dangerous power vaccuum right now, which is going to let us to victory even sooner. I suggest your read the article I posted earlier published in The Daily Beast.

Since you're interestred in Mossadegh: I highly recommend reading the blog comments here by Ramin Parsa (not the author ot the blog) in response to a romanticized version of Mossadegh:
