I see nothing heartwarming about this at all. A high proportion of the organized crime in Kosova is carried out by mixed Albanian-Serb gangs, a fact conveniently forgotten by champions of Serbia who can only deal with racial purity, and the same story can be found in many other countries of the world. To organized crime, what's important is trust and the bottom line, not the religion or ethnic origin of one's business contacts. This makes no-one, except the criminals, any happier.

HP being HP, bless its cotton socks, I presume there's a secularist point being made here. Sorry about the soh failure but do we have any actual data to back up the implication that atheists wouldn't stoop to such behaviour?

Btw I can't see where in the story it says that Abbas is a practising Muslim. Are we by any chance jumping to conclusions?

Mendel
Not so depressed as to stop him keeping Manchesters finest working girls in 24/7 employment . I always thought depression was something of a passion killer but from what I'm reading it sounds like every night was Mitzvah Night.
Still " Man cannot live by bread alone".
In view of the wonders it has done for inter faith relations in Manchester ,how about sending the girls "Easy " Jet to Israel /Palestine . Problem solved .

You must be right, GB. One of our former ministers appeared to be related to one of the "human Creators" from space. John Prescott seemed remarkably like Jabba the Hutt.

This post was hilarious, and amie's assessment of why it is funny and relevant is spot-on, in a deep but non-pedantic manner.

One thing though - in the link to the article on Denham's faith group "policy advisers":
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/6569144/Faith-groups-to-be-key-policy-advisers.html
I see no mention of any other faiths than Christianity and Islam.

So it seems that Jews - despite being part of our culture since the time of Oliver Cromwell (and before 1275), do not exist in John Denham's religious-political universe.

One secularist (AC Grayling) at the Guardian speaks of other groups who are excluded by Denham's blinkered partiality, but bizarrely this secularist does not even mention Jews (it is "CiF", after all)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/nov/16/john-denham-faith-groups

Denham then returned to CiF to moan like a climaxing chav about how Grayling had caricatured him:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2009/nov/18/faith-groups-communities-denham

Denham failed to address one of Grayling's poorly-presented points - that of non-Christian and non-Muslim groups, including other faith groups and secularists, not being mentioned as possible advisers.

Denham conveniently failed to find any necessity to mention the right of Jewish representatives to form part of his consultancy project (perhaps not to offend the "anti-Zionists" who may be amongst his chosen viziers).

Such selective and discriminatory arrogance from Denham shows that he is seriously unfit to be a communities minister. Labour have ratcheted up community tensions in Britain by forcing "faith-based" issues in education and elsewhere, they have previously chosen a body such as the MCB (co-founded by Kemal el-Helbawy of the Muslim Brotherhood, for Heaven's sake) to act as its advisers.

If they really wanted social cohesion, they would treat every single citizen in this country as equal, with no aspects of policy farmed out to non-elected groups or individuals.

We already have 26 CoE bishops and archbishops parked in their reserved seats in the House of Lords, interfering with our democracy. Prime ministers (who should have no say in such matters) choose which Archbishop of Canterbury we have, selected from a shortlist.

By showing such partiality and indulgence to one religious class, one must open the door to all religious groups or none.

Perhaps Denham should consider the pressing need of a real role for Raelians in advising our nation on how to conduct its policies in the remaining period of this discredited and worthless government:

Or get some Rastafarians to give advice on drugs policy to Alan Johnson.

S O Muffin: I was just thinking the other day we hadn’t heard from you for a while

Amie, thanks for noticing... Well, I am really busy in what passes for my real life, so the few occasional minutes I can spare to comment on HP are post-midnight, infrequent... And it ain't going to be better in the next few years. But being overworked, busy and stressed is great!
