It has to be said, I’m prepared to put the stuff about the Caliphate down to youthful exuberance (and, no, Graham, I don’t think Ven wants to re-establish the Papal States either).

Saeed’s still one of the most urbane and erudite of the SNP big cheeses, and has likely travelled more than much of the cabinet – barring McMoonface – put together.

Good post.

The SNP can blame their support for Osama Saeed for the fact myself and many others will no longer be voting for the SNP. I thought Labour were terrible; imagine by horror to discover the SNP were even worse.

The final straw was their involvement with Osama Saeed and his “Scottish Islamic Foundation” – a SNP worker and SNP MSP-hopeful (hardly independant eh?) who was handed a six-figure sum of taxpayers cash to set up an Islamic organisation. This would have been bad enough, but there are questions about Saeed’s views; questionable comments made (e.g. on caliphate); and links to Islamists. I have muslim friends who say they are horrified Salmond et al are treating Saeed as a “representitive” of the mainstream community. Nothing could be further from the truth in their opinion.

I hope the SNP think very carefully about this appeasment/funding when the muslim community itself does not entirely support this man. As for the non-muslim (majority) population – they are not happy either, and no, it’s nothing to do with “racism” or “Islamophobia”. By all means empower the muslim community but do not do it through a party stooge with questionable views. Otherwise it will backfire spectacularly and you will end up pissing off the majority of people, muslim and non-muslim. Wake up, Salmond/SNP.

P.S. In this case, as one finds all too often, dishonesty and/or plain ignorance (is there any other flavour?) are what is known as “features, not bugs.”
