Anthony Julius on Desert Island Discs

Soon to be available on Iplayer is Anthony Julius’ spot on Desert Island Discs.

The conceit of Desert Island Discs is as follows:

Desert Island Discs was created by Roy Plomley in 1942, and the format is simple: a guest is invited by Kirsty Young to choose the eight records they would take with them to a desert island.

They also get to choose a luxury and a book. The hypothetical castaway gets the complete works of Shakespeare and the King James Bible.

In Anthony Julius’ case, they substituted the Torah for the KJB.

Asked Anthony (and I paraphrase)

“I’m a student of English Literature – I’d like the King James Bible, please”

Correct.
