Mam Tor. Perhaps you need to re-read what I wrote. I am in favour of NO beliefs having protection. I am in favour of the *scrapping* of legal protection for religious beliefs, not the elevation of all other beliefs to the same status as religious one. That was kinda my point. I doubt very much that this is the point being made by the Christian Legal Centre.

I’ll concede they’re not perfect but I’d take an English judge over an american, spanish or italian one any day. Gordon Brown not honest & frugal??? That I didn’t know – thanks for bringing me up to speed on that one. I knew about what a rotter Griffin is though.

Not that I’ve any experience of industrial tribunrals but sounds like Nicholson’d have the makings of a constructive dismissal case, he was hired by the company to do a specific job that he was prevented from doing by executives.
Also I’d bet that they asked for volunteers to fly the pda to ireland, you can’t just order someone on a 9-5 contract to drop everything and start jetting round europe at the drop of a hat or be fired – that’d be unreasonable, What if they had to get the kids or something?

I mean the protection of religious beliefs, if it to be inclusive, includes non-religious beliefs, and this case demonstrates the hopeless task of creating pluralistic legislation.

It is the pluralistic protect that leads to chaos, not this (minor) judgement.

It is a rotten test case, but clearly as many have commented above, an impossible situation. Tolerance is not at issue; this enshrines the quixotic, elevates mere prejudice to the level of argument. How is this going to operate? Can conscience (I need not bother you with the details of how this has been formed) be equivalent with good governance for all? It seems by this report we now have laws which will act as an opt out clause for whim or petulance. Whatever happened to ‘vexatious’ law suits, chucked out at the door of the court?
