"Isy, feel free to start your own blog."

Look I'm not demanding a huge cover of the topic or anything, I just want a simple answer of why wasn't this addressed at all - not even one post - on this blog, while hypocritically criticizing others for not covering the Iranian elections (obviously not the same thing but with some similarities).

But, I apologise to anyone if I came over as sexist. It's probably no good my protesting I am not, so I'll leave it at that.

"Still wasn’t her situation, politics, bravery or talent worth some mention first,"

I thought it spoke for itself. I had nothing serious to add, nor was going to pretend I had merely because I find opposition to the current Iranian regime often (though not always) conducive.

My praise for her position could easily be critiqued as disingenuous because of my pro-Israel sympathies. Nor do I think the lady would necessarily want the support of a pro-Zionist, since it could easily be used against her (I do not think anyone who matters would read this blog, but I adhere to the general principle that nobody would automatically want me as a friend soley because I would find it useful).

I just meant I think both she what she did attractive. Nor did I want to be a hypocrite about it.

And, of course, Josh Scholar has never commended someone's bravery merely because politically conducive, nor excoriated another's because it wasn't.

"so that we at least know what side he’s on?"

Yes, because obviously I'm on the darkside. Or did you mean something else?

"In the end I suppose I was reacting to my assumption about Zkharya’s politics, which is what I usually react to."

And what, exactly, did you think those were, Josh? If after insulting me you rate me the telling (or even addressing in the second, rather than third, person)?

You would deny them the first step.
...
[...]as flawed as he was

I'm afraid that this is exactly the same sort of moral relativism that Gene displayed last night with his 'basis' sentence.

The key point is that you would *not* perform these gymnastics for BNP supporters who opted for the BNP in protest at the liberal consensus or because of their stance on immigration, both entirely legitimate concerns for the majority of the British population. Yet, you would endorse a movement headed by supporters of clerical fascism, limited popular sovereignty and fervent anti-Semitism. I wonder if the Egyptians chose to elect a Muslim Brotherhood majority to the Majlis, and Magdy Akef as president, whether you would make the same excuses for them.

I support absolute political sovereignty vested in the Iranian and British peoples. This is why I reject the anti-democratic nature of the EU and a Green Movement headed by anti-Semites and supporters of straightjacket democracy.

@Josh - I have some sympathy with your intervention but I think calling people 'misogynist' for saying this woman is pretty is a bit strong - frivolous or just possibly sexist, yes (and then only because she's the topic of a political story not because there's anything wrong in saying someone's pretty!) but I've seen plenty of what I'd call far more serious sexism and even real misogyny on HP - at its worst this takes the form of horrible, spiteful, personal attacks on older and less attractive women revealing real disgust and hostility.

But if you've come across internet sites where women's contributions are consistently and deliberately brushed aside by references to their looks I can understand why the initial comments irked you.
