“My house is your house”

This is a guest post by Lyn Julius
A daughter of the wealthy Jewish Castro family from Egypt once attended a lecture by Anwar Sadat’s widow Jehan in New York City.  Congratulating her afterwards on her excellent speech, the Egyptian Jewess exchanged pleasantries with Mrs Sadat. “But you must come back to visit (Egypt) and to [...]

Orwell diaries begin final countdown to war

I posted last month about George Orwell’s diary entries from 1939 appearing daily in blog form on the same dates 70 years later.
If you have a historical interest in the beginnings of the Second World War, this would be a good time to start following it. His entries include clippings from the British newspapers, which [...]

Israeli organ harvesting: old news in Iran

In 2004, Iran’s Sahar 1 TV station aired a weekly dramatic series called “Zahra’s Blue Eyes,” about an Israeli government program to steal eyes and other organs from Palestinian children. I have no idea if the series was broadcast in other Middle Eastern countries, but it wouldn’t shock me. [Update: In fact it was dubbed [...]

A Reputation To Defend

Earlier this month it emerged that jihadi preacher Anwar al-Awlaki was scheduled to speak, via a video link from Yemen, at a “Cage Prisoners” Ramadan fundraiser on August 30. The venue Moazzam Begg’s outfit chose was Kensington Town Hall in London, which accepted the booking.
Awlaki’s participation was alarming because he is a direct threat [...]

The Jerusalem Post reports:
Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported Sunday that Bostrom’s 2001 book Inshallah, which deals with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and reportedly included the allegations of organ harvesting, was financed – among other bodies – by the Swedish Foreign Ministry. There has been no response to the claim so far.

Round 2: Ben-Dror Yemini v HRW’s Joe Stork

Joe Stork responds to Ben-Dror Yemini’s charges, Ben-Dror Yemini bites back:

On Sunday (16.8.09), I wrote an article entitled “Author of Report Against Israel Supported Munich Massacre” which dealt with Joe Stork, the man who presented the severe Human Rights Watch (HRW) report last week (13.8.09) which said that 12 Palestinian civilians, including children, were shot [...]

Trot Narrowly Escapes Being Hoisted on Unexpectedly Literal Petard

Reviewing news coverage of the most recent Baghdad bombing I came across this eyewitness report from Channel Four News:
I knew Iraq would be dangerous but I didn’t expect to be so close to a bomb blast.
This morning I was sitting with my colleague John Tipple in the lobby of the Al-Rasheed hotel inside the green [...]

“The BNP Is Not Racist”

The News of the World has the scoop:
A LITTLE girl grins with glee as she holds a golly over a fire . . . while a jeering BNP politician finds the doll guilty of BEING BLACK during a vile mock trial and execution.
The baying crowd cheers when the toy – dubbed Winston – is condemned [...]

Is anyone outraged?

Muslims in the Washington, DC, area are renting space for Friday prayers from– among other places– synagogues.
“We say our prayers, and a few hours later they meet for Sabbath and they say their prayers,” said Rizwan Jaka, a leader at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) mosque in Sterling [Virginia], which added services at [...]
