Islamophilia Botch
A silly website called ‘Islamophobia Watch’ has put up a couple of posts denouncing me for supposed failings in my report for the Centre for Social Cohesion on the BNP. The site is apparently run by one Bob Pitt, whose approach is summed up well by Terry Sanderson of the National Secular Society:
Bob Pitt sees “Islamophobia” everywhere. His website is packed with “examples” of how “Islamophobia” is spreading through Europe. Such is his obsession that just about all public utterances that are not completely fawning about Islam are recorded and denounced by Mr Pitt as ‘Islamophobic’.
Pitt, it turns out, thinks I write for a ‘notoriously Islamophobic website’ (you’re currently viewing that website, in case you hadn’t guessed) and considers me a ‘good example’ of someone who is ‘promoting hostility towards the Muslim community’.
Now, I could go on to respond to such pathetic (first example) and potentially libelous (second example) statements with a long, measured piece pointing out that the accusation that I am ‘Islamophobic’ because I am critical of Islamic texts is as idiotic as claims made elsewhere that I am an ‘anti-Christian, anti-Semite hate monger’ and a ‘disgusting human being’ because of my critical writings on the Old and New Testaments and on Christian theology.
I could point out that following the publication of the report I’ve been denounced by Lee Barnes of the BNP as ‘a shit researcher’ who is ’simply being paid to peddle bullshit that benefits himself and his Zionist, neo-con, Israeli buddies’, and that he thinks ‘we can safely assume that Edmund is a Zionist, Jewish and also a Neo-Conservative stooge’. I could point out that another pro-BNP blogger and his supporters consider me to be a ‘fucking prick’, a ‘fucking rat-faced penis’, a ‘cunt’, a ‘bastard’, and a ‘deranged creep’ who ‘might be Jewish’. I could point out that another BNP member thinks I’m a ‘rabid Zionist’ and that yet another says that I’m ‘filth’ and is threatening to ‘knock the smirk off’ my ’stupid face’. I could then go on to point out that if these venomous outpourings don’t bother me then nothing Pitt has to throw at me will either.
Luckily, however, I don’t need to write such a piece, as it turns out this website offers just the kind of in depth response that the writer of ‘Islamophobia Watch’ deserves, and that this video offers Pitt some useful advice on what he should do to improve.
