Publicity for Lubna Hussein
A Sudanese woman, Lubna Hussein, has printed 500 invitation cards and sent out emails, saying she wanted as many people as possible to attend her court hearing on in Khartoum today.
“It is important that people know what is happening,” she says.
According to the BBC, the UN worker is facing a sentence of 40 lashes and a fine for… wearing trousers.
Ten other women who were arrested for the same offense have already been lashed.
Ms Hussein wants publicity for the ordeal she is facing, so I think it is our duty to help her get it.

Yes, good work. Sometimes I get depressed that these barbaric, medieval laws still reign supreme in parts of the world in the 21st century.
Hopefully knowing that the world is watching will pressure the Sudanese authorities to treat her more leniently than perhaps they normally would.

It’s sick.
At the same time some people call Dawkins an aggressive atheist because he’s occasionally rude to people.
But don’t fret, the UN will sort it all out.

According to the BBC, she is basing her appeal on Sharia law, saying that wearing trousers is not against Sharia law even though it is against man-made law of ‘indecency’. Muddies the water somewhat, although obviously it is not a good idea to flog someone for wearing trousers. I wonder if her bottom was covered a la Punjabi women or Muslim women in Europe.

Oh, I forgot, Sharia isn’t man-made law is it.

Most I ever got was 12, for talking after lights out at my dodgy Prep school, so this seems a tad excessive.
Mind you, if it had been Hilary Clinton I think we could argue it fair, reasonable and proportionate.

Interested to know what her defence is – that she didn’t know the laws of the land? Or that as a worker at the UN, she should be exempt from them?
29 July 2009, 11:05 am
That she doesn’t think that there should be such a law at all.

“the UN worker is facing a sentence of 40 lashes and a fine for… wearing trousers.”
It’s their culture isn’t it? How dare any of us, Western Imperialist Colonizers condemn the laws of a sovereign country. And I am sure I don’t need to remind you that to do so would also be Islamophobic.
Surely this lady was aware of the law when she decided to commit such a heinous crime, 40 lashes and a fine, she got off lightly in my view, lucky she wasn’t in Afghanistan, the anti-imperialist resistance take a very dim view of women ‘wearing trousers’ you know, I hear it’s considered a capital offense in the more ethnically forthright and culturally quaint Islamist camps even worse than women reading books, so I am told.

My first thought on reading this was that 35 years ago British feminists would have been out on the streets drawing attention to this poor (but very enterprising) woman’s plight. It makes one wonder about ‘progress’.

It makes one wonder about ‘progress’.
I thought we were all used to the fact to todays progressives useless selfish airheads whose only principle is fashion.

Anaximanders other sandal…a deliciously ironic comment….
The next time a muslim “leader” or apologist whines about Islam being a religion of peace and tolerance, and how “we Islamaphobes” have misunderstood it…perhaps someone could remind him or her about this case, and so many other similarly barbaric cases we rread about on almost a daily basis…Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc…….

Josh -we are, but it doesn’t make it any less sad.

Yes, but she’s the one with God on her side. It’s the Government who are apostates. Could someone give us a clear ruling on women wearing trousers? and why God reveals different levels of ignorance to different groups. Seems to me that the Old Man needs to be clearer about what he expects mortals to do.

“That she doesn’t think that there should be such a law at all.”
That wouldn’t fly here if you were up before a judge, would it?

@Israeli nurse – good point!
If you look at Guardian CIF today the “feminist” op ed is an utterly vapid rant against adverts for feminine hygiene products.
According to Bidisha, it is sexist adverts for pessaries and the like that are the current nemesis in the fight for gender equality. Women being tortured for wearing trousers must come lower down the list.
There can be no doubt that a large section of Western feminists have utterly abandonned women in the Islamic world, leaving them to face executions for breaches of chastity, or “honour” killings and female genital mutilation, while they obess about sexist adverts or a London university beauty pageant.
I hope the ghost of Emmeline Pankhurst rises to haunt them.

Rest assured the UN will blame this on the Jews. But for future reference those sternly worded letters should be made of pillows.

“According to Bidisha…”
Having read that, I’ve now no need to go to CiF. I think I can already picture what the article is going to be like…

As usual British feminists don’t give a toss about the sufferings of women under islam.
“The happiest day of my life ” was how sarah “Spoonface ” Tether, described the day a Guantanamo thug came back to Britain.
Why doesn’t she have an opinion on this?
Or “Baroness” Tong friend of Hamas, where’s her opinion ?
Jew haters regularly hold controlled riots outside the Israaeli embassy.
Feminists don’t raise a voice at the suffering of women under islam.
After all, they’ve got lots of time off work & cheap, imported, child minders.
That’s all they’re interested in. Selfish hypocrites.

The author’s of this Sudanese repression would have a shock if they visited Pakistan.
29 July 2009, 9:44 pm
How can I contact her to support her?
30 July 2009, 3:12 pm
“The author’s of this Sudanese repression would have a shock if they visited Pakistan.”
They need only watch PTV, Pakistan’s state-run television station, and see female hosts and actors with uncovered heads and wearing jeans and saris.

It is a tragedy, that Obama, Carter and Co., after an international and american increase of antizionist worldconspiracy “thinking” — in core a big success of the islamists — substitutes G.W. Bush’s not consequente or superficial strategy with one based on historical and moral Big Lie, – so to hear while his Cairo speach; in ex-osman district “palestine” antisemite pogromes and continuous murder assaults started in 1919/21 !
The consequence now is, that US authorities try to force ISRAEL for acknowledgement of the islam BLOOD-& GROUND-right, the same antirepublican “right” what destroyed Tschecheslovacia 1938. And what its next result must be increase of desintegration of arab inhabitants against the proper “settlements”, – 1st Jerusalem and then ISRAEL !
- Western republics and democracies for “blood & ground right”, that must be beaten down !
On this pictures here nearby with islamic Hail Hitler salutations you can see a proofe of one side of european and american “taboos” or secrets and not recepiered facts. – With the consequence of being mentally and political worried and not armed, in fight to protect republicanian democracy and as condition, to have the right strategy to fight totalitarians, terrorists and spec. islamists expansionism sucessfully, – of what very often their transreligious and transational common link is the same as in Hiltler’s “figth time”: The believe and propaganda of “freemasons-jewish” worldconspiracy; the reason because I call it WCFT, Worldconspiracy Fanatisize Tool,- a tool what was also used by KGB operations and russian propaganda, what stepped into the footsteps formed by SS- bigmufti al-Hussaini together with ODESSA leader Johann van Leer, Hitler’s official biographist, leading academic antisemite propagandist and islam specialist, who converts in Cairo …
One of the very good describing of the WCFT history of effects, because based on the france-russian developed “conspiracy warning” called “protocols of elders of zion”, is the Hassada Ben-Itto book “The protocols …, anatomy of a falsification” (my translation)
For more information see aval31.free.fr , photospalestine.free.fr , TellTheCildrenTheTruth.com ; w.The Big Lie and the Media War against ISRAEL ; ..” , BLACKBOOK of KGB II. , w.What the WEST needs to know , and if possibly on english WARUM AUSCHWITZ ? ( Why Auschwitz ?) by Gunnar Heinsohn and JIHAD AND JEWSHATE from Matthias Kuentzel.de, – also several about the special relationships of Germany to the “Land of the Aryans” = Iran !
So W E have to develope a new international system against antisemite rage, fanatism and jihad, for backing the troops and their homeland’s consciousness of the West or for expl. Japan and so complement the police’s and military’s activities, and help the peoples democratic debate, instaed of tendencally paranoid total truth(ers).
One aim should be to spread the film “Protocols of Zion” from NYC’s Marc Levin !

I agree. She needs – and deserves – all the publicity she can get. Let’s hope the Sudanese government is moved by it all and lets her go. A very brave woman!
3 August 2009, 7:03 am
Only cowards, who has no faith on themselves, can dream of flogging a woman.
19 August 2009, 9:10 pm
The striking thing is the deafening silence from the Western media, universities, self-declared human rights groups, and women’s groups. I guess its politically incorrect to question barbarism, as long as it is Islamic barbarism.
Can you imagine the uproar if Israel had a policy of striking a woman even for the most outrageous crimes? But it’s ok for Moslems to beat a woman half to death and scar her for life for— nothing.
Of course, in other Moslem countries she’d have been executed. Sudan is sort of in the mainstream; not as bad as some, worse than others.

Good work Brett.
