“Where are the moderate Muslims?”

When are they going to stand up to the extremists?

Here and now.

Update: Joseph K. in the comments (30 May 2009, 4:57 pm) makes the case that the Luton Islamic Centre, whose leader Farasat Latif denounced Muslim extremists in the Daily Mail article, is not particularly moderate.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to do down the action reported in the Mail. By publicly confronting Al-Muhajiroun, Farasat Latif and his colleagues made a symbolic stand, and have done truly mainstream Muslims in both Luton and Britain as a whole a great service. However, having read through his organisation’s website, I do not agree that the brand of Islam it promotes should be considered either “moderate” or “mainstream”, nor do I believe that the majority of HP contributors and commenters would wish it to become established as such in the UK.
