Lessons from the Apartheid error
After taking in his article (below this one), I have to say that The Hasbara Buster is one of the sloppiest historians I have ever encountered.
If his grasp of South African history is as shonky as his grasp of Israel’s history, it is little wonder that this stretched and laboured ‘apartheid’ analogy falls so flat. [...]

On how Apartheid South Africa was “unfairly demonized” — like Israel
This is a guest post by The Hasbara Buster.
Editor’s note: this piece is tongue in cheek. The Hasbara Buster is not supporting apartheid South Africa. Rather, he is making a point by analogy. I mention this because I expect that some people will be confused, otherwise.
The Afrikaner, or Boer, people of South Africa [...]

The BBC get impartiality wrong twice
The BBC should have broadcast the DEC appeal for Gaza.
Most people could not see how a humanitarian appeal could be misunderstood as being impartial.
However, Norman Geras’ blogpost documents how the BBC does give biased news commentary in its headlines on the Israeli-Hamas conflict.
Most people, might think a headline entitled “Israel launches attacks in Gaza” might [...]

Holocaust Memorial Day on Al-Rahma TV
From MEMRI:
Following are excerpts from a show featuring Egyptian cleric Amin Al-Ansari, which aired on Al-Rahma TV on January 26, 2009.
Warning: The show contains extremely disturbing Holocaust footage.
Amin Al-Ansari: Let us examine the civil strife the Jews have caused throughout the world. Of course, we know what problems they caused the Muslims. They have always [...]

Kaschke vs Osler
Dave Osler has posted a brief update on the libel action being taken against him and other bloggers.
Many of the ‘words complained of’ – to use the legal expression – were not even written by me, but consists of comments from the comments box. While I am confident that all of them fall within the [...]

The imaginary world of Sunny Hundal
‘We care for human rights’, just not Palestinians
says Sunny Hundal in the title of a post mocking my recent blog post criticising his 6th form defense of Pilger. Hundal’s argument is that:
“It’s more amusing that for a blog so concerned with human rights and all that jazz, they’ve published two separate editorials supporting the BBC [...]

D’Escoto and The Holocaust
This is a guest post by Ben Cohen of Z Word
In the end, Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, the President of the UN General Assembly, decided not to attend the Holocaust commemoration ceremonies at UN Headquarters here in New York. One can speculate endlessly as to why D’Escoto – whose choice of metaphor to describe Israel’s policies [...]

BBC: ‘Crisis unfolding’ in Sri Lanka
According to the BBC:
A major humanitarian crisis is unfolding in northern Sri Lanka, with a quarter of a million people trapped by fighting, the Red Cross says.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) estimates that hundreds of people have been killed in fighting between troops and separatist rebels.
It called on both sides to allow [...]

Lunatics smash up more shops
The latest victim in the “smash something up for peace” campaign is a branch of Tesco in Swansea. Luckily no one had to be hospitalised after this incident, unlike a previous attackin which a Tesco delivery driver’s head was smashed by a brick hurled by a peace protester in Shoreditch.
In this latest episode – photo [...]

Miliband Blogs on Guantanamo
David Miliband has a blog up on the Guantanamo decommissioning process:
President Obama’s formal announcement of the decision to close Guantanamo is welcome. He has spoken in strong terms about the need to combine high ideals with strong policy. The British position has been to do our bit.
We have taken back all nine British nationals from [...]
