CNN reports from Venezuela

Stephen Sizer cites (another) Holocaust denier
This guest post is cross posted from Seismic Shock
On a talk show for Press TV, in an interview with Alan Hart, Reverend Stephen Sizer cites American evangelical Dale Crowley after about four minutes.
Dale Crowley’s anti-Israel radio talk show (Crowley’s Spotlight on Israel, with a nod and a wink to the fascist magazine Spotlight) was recently [...]

100 years of state pension – what now?
This is a guest post by Mira
One hundred years ago this month the first state pensioners queued at their local Post Offices to claim the small but often critical amount of money allocated to them under the 1908 Old Age Pensions Act. This act was a watershed in British social policy. With it ended the [...]

What Jimmy Carter Can Learn from the Erdogan Outburst
This is a guest post by Ben Cohen of Z Word
Reza Aslan, a California-based academic, has been speaking to Jimmy Carter about the Middle East. It is the kind of interview which all politicians dream about. Aslan bolsters rather than challenges Carter, leading him to his favorite topics and themes with dutifully worded questions. Two [...]

Haaretz report on a secret Israeli report into West Bank settlements:

But the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) did not reveal the reason why the children were taken into the custody of [...]

Failed suicide-bomber jailed for life
Mohammad Rashid Abdulaziz Saeed Alim, aka Nicky Reilly, has been jailed for life for attempting to set off a nail bomb in a crowded restaurant in Exeter.
Apparently Alim got stuck in the toilet cubicle he’d entered to prime his bomb and part of the detonator system went off prematurely, injuring only Alim himself.
He was described [...]

Hamas, the government of terror
The Palestinian daily newspaper, Al-Hayat al-Jadida, features a story about a Palestinian family, the Abd Rabbos, who have spoken out about how Hamas threatened and violently intimidated people into letting militants use their homes for military purposes, including arms storage, weapons smuggling tunnels and even rocket launching.
The report said, according to the Jerusalem Post, that people who objected [...]

Nutters Corner
Here’s a sticker that caught my eye on the way into work this morning.
A lie from Moses? I’m not sure I’d put it that high. The man was working with limited data, and came up with what must have seemed to be a pretty plausible theory, at the time. Aristotle didn’t do that much better. [...]

Obama blasts Wall Street bonuses
Another sign that the Bush era is over: President Obama gets righteously angry at corporate greed and excess: in this case payment of $18.4 billion in bonuses to employees of New York financial companies in 2008, despite their parlous condition.
