It was sarcastic - something along the lines that if Asma and her husband really wanted to be of the people they could give up the illegitimate power that they only had through feudal inheritance - but contained no offensive terms. The Times did not see fit to publish it, although they have let through much stronger comments on any number of other articles. Thanks DaveM for keeping our noses firmly pressed to this rancid showcase. I am uneasy about what to think about Israel's negotiations with Syria. If they see the overriding danger as Iran, and the realpolitic shows the only way to mitigate this is to isolate Iran from Syria, then, morality aside, does the realpolitic add up? I suspect DaveM would say you couldn't trust such a deal with Syria for a moment, but surely the Israelis have taken that into account?
