Wardy won’t like it but PG Wodehouse only narrowly avoided the same fate.

Oi, I’ve just seen this. There were demands, mainly by William Connor in the Daily Mirror, for Wodehouse to be charged with something or other, but it didn’t happen because he hadn’t done anything criminal, having broadcast nothing more sinister than some lighthearted reminiscences of his time in an internment camp.

Lordamercy just flicked over to 515 and saw ‘middle east today’ a sort of teleconference discussion show with a theme tune reminiscent of the movie halloween and then a couple of trailers for future press shows. One an expose of American mistreatment of iraqi prisoners and one about the death penalty and miscarriages of justice in Texas.

I don’t know Humphies, Levin, Gibson and Cavuto, but I do know the rest of these neanderthals that “maven” admires so much. They are anti-intellectual morons who simply shout down anybody who doesn’t agree with them. Boortz i know especially well as i lived in Atlanta his home base for 3 years. Just as an example, he was absolutely frothing when the head of the IOC referred to the Atlanta Olympics as “these most exceptional games” instead of “best games ever,” this after the shooting at centennial square (not to mention the botch that the entire olympics there turned out to be). Limbaugh is, as al franken said, simply a “big fat idiot”, savage lives up to his name, and hannity is a limbaugh wannabe liberal-baiting moron who lumps in Liberals-Socialists-Communists in the same breath. These guys were in large part responsible for me high-tailing it back to canada (where, by comparison, even our right-wing radio hosts seemed sane). They were insane on Bill Clinton — his “crime” was worse than Watergate, etc. etc. ad nauseam. Two years after I left, they voted in (or didn’t vote in) Bush. And these are the guys that “maven” is urging you to listen to. pathetic!

Joyce actually had German citizenship at the time of his trial. His British passport had been falsely obtained and the only evidence of him broadcasting from germany whilst his British passport was valid came from a Policeman who claimed to recognise his voice from a meeting before the war. There had been several “Lord Haw Haw’s” broadcasting during the phoney war so the whole thing was a bit dodgy and he was executed on a technicality. Joyce’s wife Margaret was a full British passport holder and had broadcast for the nazis (as was, and had, PG Wodehouse) but neither were executed.

Graham: William Joyce in fact had a British passport, although he was not legally entitled to it, having been born, as you say, in the U.S.A. and being a U.S. citizen. It was that that got him hanged for treason. His use of a British passport to travel to Germany at the start of WWII was regarded as claiming and acknowledging allegiance to the king while he worked for the nazis. There were and are all sorts of complications with the laws of treason: Roger Casement was hanged becaUse a mediaeval statute would have had a particular meaning if there had been commas in mediaeval statutes.
