The passage quite clearly compares the journalistic response to the welcome Kuntar received in Lebanon, to the journalistic response to the rubber bullet incident.

Weinstein believes (correctly or not) that the disparity in the coverage can only mean that journalists hold Israeli soldiers to higher moral standards than Kuntar and those who welcomed him.

The “others” in this sense can only be those who indulged in “he glorification of someone who beat a four year old girl to death.”

The passage makes absolutely no sense otherwise.

The author is arguing that the relatively large amount of news space the rubber bullet shooting took up, compared to the welcome given to Samir Kuntar, is in fact a tacit admission on the part of journalists and their editors that Israeli soldiers are more morally superior to the likes of the aforementioned child-killer.

No. He says “you know that we are morally superior and therefore demand from us what you don’t demand from others.” He does not restrict the moral superiority to Kuntar; Israel is morally superior to “others.”

Also, notice how Weinstein tries to make B’Tselem’s work appear as Israel’s merit, when B’Tselem is a marginal institution almost totally funded by European churches and whose field workers (the ones who risk being beaten by Israeli soldiers, and frequently are) are Muslims.
