Anyway, the very fact that people widely associate her accent with Minnesota, "Fargo," or Wisconsin and not other regions is proof that you're wrong.

Linguists can make very clear distinctions between upper midwestern accents. The accents in the places you mention, Careless, sound nothing like each other.

Wow, is this stupid. For the record, when I wrote my earlier posts (you can bug the admin on the site if you want confirmation), I was in Wisconsin on one of my monthly trips there. Most of my family lives there.

Simple fact: I'm an expert at accents compared to the average American (who knows little about accents beyond tv, NYC, general southern, and maybe Boston. I'm not claiming to be an expert linguist). I can identify elements in her accent that are upper Midwest, and none that are outside that+Canada+general (tv) American.

You're just profoundly wrong.

Here is a comprehensive list of allegations levelled at Sarah Palin. Those that are false and those that are true. Before referring to her as, for example, a creationist, pleas refer to it.

By the way, did anyone else read the profile in today's Guardian? I counted 6 outright lies and 10 gross distortions.

Sen. Mike Gravel endorse Palin in counterpunch.

Thank God, She Has No Foreign Policy Experience!
On rare occasions our nation has been lucky when new political leaders were selected from obscurity by circumstance. They weren’t indebted to the party bosses or special interests, but they rendered unusual and historic service in times of need. Washington, Lincoln, the first Roosevelt and Truman come to mind.
…
Governor Palin has an advantage that her three other national contestants can’t begin to match. I’m not talking about the fact that she has technically more executive experience than all three put together, although Obama has exhibited uncommon competence in managing the slickest and most efficient campaign since Mark Hannah got William McKinley elected president.
…
Sarah has literally come to the national scene without owing anything to any party or corporate interest––not even McCain––he needs her more than she needs him. Imagine a person a heart beat away not owned by the military-industrial complex, Wall Street, corporate America or AIPAC. WOW! Can this last?
…
One last piece of advice. Governor: you are now in the world of barracudas. It’s no different than Wassila or Juneau; they just pay more for food, clothing and their houses. But they have the same capacity for fear, greed and love. Sarah: if you refuse to sell out––you don’t need to––you have a glorious future ahead of you with your gift of courage …

The sad thing about what he said is that he is doing Jesus' thinking for Him.

Just what we need though, an ex-POW nearly-dead as President, and a Creationist as VP. I think I need that hole in my head...

Hasan. When I tentatively suggested Wisconsin as what Palin's dialect, a based it on this: My time a a language teacher in Minnesota, and the Chicagoan I hear in the voices of Terry McCauliffe, Mary Matalin, and to a much lesser extent, Hillary Clinton. I just split the difference, geographically. I did it offhandedly, not expecting to start an argument.

What I said about your screen name was not meant with ill-will, but you took it that way, and I should have apologized. I do so now.
