Hitch wrote an absolute stinker denouncing Chanuka last December, as it was a celebration of an anti-cosmopolitan Jewish movement against an enlightened Greek one, failing to appreciate that those enlightened Greek occupiers of the Jewish homeland weren't particularly enlightened unless you think setting up idols in a Jewish temple and housing swine in there was an act of enlightenment by an occupying force. If you think you understand the texts to be meaning something distasteful and you are not steeped in that tradition then you are simply embracing prejudice without doing your research.
