The Opposition in the Australian Parliament is the Australian Labor Party -- but it is part of the Labour Movement . Seems we can't make up our mind on this issue.

Hey Harry
glad to see you are mixing with a more eclectic mix of folks these days.I suppose your new contributor has a critique of how the USA is palpably losing the peace in Iraq?
All the best

Thanks, all, for your kind welcome. After struggling with Hebrew for many years, I find Brit English a snap. You just put "innit" at the end of every sentence.

Addendum: Or interpreter. I once had a lot of fun sitting between a US gentleman born and bred in the Looziana Buyooz and a lady from NZ, acting as an interpretor. Both of them were quite comprehensible to my ears but neither could understand more than an occasional word the other one said.
Near as I can render it in text, this is his comment on her accent: "Ah cain't unnerstan a woo-ard thay-et lay-ee-dee sayuz."
Her comments to me were a bit more easily translated. "Huh?".
I love English... in all it's variety in spelling, grammar, slang, and pronunciation. It's kind of like the Internet. It's chaotic, but it works.

And welcome to the world of blogging, with a lesson on comments. "You never know what will get someone to spout off on their favo(u)rite hobby".

And just wait until you get into that old 's' and 'z' spelling. Should I criticise your spelling or criticize it?

And there's more. Have I learned better spelling or learnt it? And who wears 'pants' in the family, anyway -- and just what are pants? Have you got (or gotten) the idea yet... that the US and Britain are two countries separated by a common language (we won't even mention Aus slang here, chinas...).

If I could get a position as 'translator of English to English' anywhere in the world, I'd be happily bemused for the rest of my life.
